Chupa – Alien Explorer {Uni Double Project}

•April 17, 2009 • Leave a Comment

A friend and I are working together on our final project for year 3 Animation, the story follows a cutesy alien with a hot temper, who happens to have a passion for exploration and photography. He lands on planet earth and begins to photograph animals and creatures that he encounters. I have begun to work on several models for the piece, the alien’s ship, a lion cub he will come into contact with, and his camera.

More Zbrush Sculpting

We have the presentation of our single projects for our 3rd year to complete on Thursday, so I’ve been working on some new sculpts in Zbrush to submit for work. I also plan to do some aztec/mayan environment work, or at least a prototype, to show as a work in progress. Here are screenshots of the work so far, a ‘Baryonyx Walkeri’, and a Lioness.

Zbrush Basics

•November 24, 2008 • Leave a Comment

It’s been a while since I made a new post, so I thought I’d update the blog with some new Zbrush work. I’ve been following the ‘Gillman’ Tutorial from Gnomon’s Cesar Dacol Jr., and the Sculpting Techniques in Zbrush 3 tutorial from Digital Tutors. It’s an awesome program but it’s got a huge learning curve, hope to be getting some more ‘doodles’ done in the near future.

The new year begins!

Ok its 6 in the morning here, I’m currently getting some work done for the first semester of our last year at TVU. Since we’ve been back at uni, the tutors have hit us hard with a load of work. This coupled with trying to find a job even as a runner is proving tough to keep up with. We have several modules we’re working on – Single Project, Advanced Character Animation and Screenwriting. Unfortunately, I wanted to focus primarily on 3D modeling, so rigging and animation aren’t really my forte’, but I’m doing a crash course in it with some dvd’s (thankyou Digital tutors! :O ) and am hopefully going to learn a lot by the end of this.

Here’s a video of me playing around with my character for the animation module – a brazilian dragonfly – to any hardcore riggers or animators, this is my first real time doing any proper rigging or lip sync, so take it easy on me :D

3D World Creative Challenge – Robots

•November 24, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I’ve decided to enter this month’s 3D World creative challenge, entitled ‘Robots’. For the design I’m going with a gladiatorial droid with a crab-like form. I’m not working with many concepts or references and pretty much creating the model off the top of my head – that coupled with the stiff competition on the forum is making me feel a little apprehensive, but I’m determined to see this through!

Here’s shots of my work so far.

Game Character Base Model complete!

Finally finished the base model part of the Digital Tutors tutorial, whew! I’ve been learning a lot more about modeling in general, and I’m happy with the outcome so far. The next step – exporting to Zbrush!

Experimental 3D – Statuette

•November 24, 2008 • 1 Comment

Hey everyone, this is my first post on Blogger, so I’m eager to get some new work up as soon as I can. I’ve been working on a new model for our Experimental 3D module at TVU. Our criteria is ‘Beauty with Ageing’, so we have decided as a group to use a rock being weathered away by waves from the sea, into a statue of a woman holding a baby. These screenshots (the first 2 being image references), show the work done so far.
